Solid Dilute, DA Non-Solid Dilute, Ancillary & Foundation Mare registrations

Step 1 - membership application

As the owners of all registered horses must be financial members, you will need to apply to join the company. An Application for membership form and a fee schedule are available for downloading from the forms page on this site or alternatively you can contact us via one of the email addresses to the left and we will post or email them to you.

Step 2A - registration application (foal recording)

If you have any one of the following you will need to download and complete an Application for foal recording.

  • A COLT under 2 years of age, REGARDLESS OF PARENTAGE, COLOUR & REGISTER
  • A PALOMINO under 2 years of age
  • A HORSE WITH UNKNOWN OR UNPROVEN PARENTAGE under 2 years of age REGARDLESS OF COLOUR & REGISTER
  • A HORSE WITH ROAN, APPALOOSA or PALOUSE PARENTAGE under 2 years of age. Horses / ponies with appaloosa / Palouse parentage will be issued with a temporary registration at 2 years of age & will be required to be reinspected after 4 years of age to ensure they are still free of characteristics.

Required documentation:

With the application for foal recording you are required to lodge the following supporting documentation:

# Colour photographs or video/DVD footage showing

  • full view of each side,
  • full view of front and rear,
  • side on close up of each eye,
  • under belly including between front legs and between back legs.

Examples of what is to be shown in photographs/videos can be found here.

# Proof of breeding for known parentage (service certificate, copy of other breed rego certificate, statutory declaration).

# Proof of ownership if you are not the breeder (copy of other breed rego certificate showing horse in your name, copy of authorised transfer, copy of receipt, statutory declaration)

# DNA test results if DNA testing is required - please see the DNA Requirements page for more information about DNA testing requirements for DA registration.

Notwithstanding the above, any non-dilute Ancillary that exhibits signs of appaloosa, Palouse, paint or pinto coat colouration will not be eligible for registration.

Step 2B - registration application (permanent registration)

If your horse or pony was foal recorded with Dilutes Australia you will need the Application for Adult Upgrade - foal recorded horses. You will also need to return your foal recording certificate with the application.

If you don't have a horse or pony that falls into one of the categories that requires mandatory foal recording you have the choice of EITHER foal recording if it is under 2 years of age OR permanently registering it regardless of what age it is.

Foal recording - if you choose to foal record follow the steps above for foal recording a horse.

Permanent registration under 2 years of age - if your horse or pony is under 2 years of age and you would like to permanently register him or her rather than foal record check first to make sure s/he doesn't have to be foal recorded by using the list above then follow the steps below.

Permanent registration 2 years of age and over - if your horse is 2 years of age or older and was not foal recorded with Dilutes Australia follow the steps below. If your horse was foal recorded download the application for adult upgrade - foal recorded horses by using the link above.

Step 3 - lodging the forms

When you have downloaded the forms, fill them out paying particular attention to the information that is required - there is a check list included with the registration applications to assist you with this.

Applications for registration of studbook stock must be accompanied by PROOF OF BREEDING by way of either a service certificate, copy of other breed registration certificate or statutory declaration. The same applies for geldings where parentage is known. Failure to supply this information will delay the processing of your registration and if it has to be returned to you you will incur a $10 paperwork fee. Our advice and assistance however are free so please email us if you are unsure about anything.

Send all the forms (application for membership / registration, video or photos, proof of breeding) and all fees owing to the address listed on the form. Once the registration has been processed you will receive a registration certificate and proof of membership.

If you wish to show in the interim, please advise us and we will issue you with a showing certificate which must be discarded upon receipt of an official registration certificate.

If you have any more queries or are unsure of anything, please email us for assistance.
